Take Off the DIY Hat!

There is a Do-It-Yourself sect of homeowners, who love to start projects around the house and take on remodeling entire portions of their homes…but they never finish. Most likely, they’ve upset their family more than once as an inconvenience has reversed hot and cold water pipes, displaced shower stalls, or worse…commodes. Maybe it’s time for the DIY’er to take the DIY hat off and get some home addition estimates, hire a contractor, and have a professional rework the plumbing in the bathroom.

Even outside DIY projects can get a little beyond the average homeowner. If you’re not sure what you’re doing and you get into your own aluminum siding repair, you could end up with a polka-dotted home. Or, if you’re digging trenches to plant rose bushes there is the danger of cutting gas lines, water lines, fiber optic cables, or electrical wires.

Your best bet is to get online and look for help. Today, there’s no need to flip through pages of a phone book wondering which contractor to pick. Reviews can be found online about plumbers, electricians and landscapers. Your project for home improvement in DC is even easier, there are all sorts of resources available to you, and with a little research and the click of a mouse, you’ll find exactly what you’re looking for.

We all want to make our home a nice place to live but for those who are moving, investing too much money is hard to swallow. However, it is true that you have to invest money to make money but before you make any changes to your existing home, talk to your Realtor about what will be the biggest increase in your home’s value. Bathroom and kitchen cleanups are usually always a great return on investment. If you have a house that’s outdated and too small, it might take too long to sell. Think about adding a small bedroom or a sunroom. Gather some home addition estimates and see if the rate of return will be worth the investment. Remember, keep the DIY hat off and leave the remodeling to the professionals!
